Choose Life
Life is a journey filled with challenges, and at times, it may seem overwhelming. The struggles of daily existence can lead to feelings of sadness, stress, and worry. However, as we navigate through these challenges, let us remember the promise found in John 10:9, where Jesus declares, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
Jesus, the King of Glory, walked among us, experiencing the same trials we face today. He endured betrayal, beatings, and an unjust death—all for us. His life, death, and resurrection are not mere historical events but an ever-present miracle, shaping our lives even now. Through Jesus, we have the opportunity to enter into the eternal peace, love, and joy of heaven.
Remember
In the days of Moses, the choice between life and death was presented, and is summarized well in Deuteronomy 30:19-20. The invitation to choose life reads, “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life”
In the days of Joshua, the challenge to choose whom to serve is reiterated in Joshua 24:15. But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
Similarly, Elijah, on Mount Carmel, posed a question to the people of Israel in 1 Kings 18:21: “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” Today, we face the same choice—life more abundantly with God or a path leading to death and destruction.
Choose Life
Hosea 4:6 warns of the consequences of rejecting knowledge, emphasizing the importance of accepting the knowledge offered to us. Hosea 4:6 states, “my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. “Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.” Notice how the choice even effects our children!
Like Ezra the scribe, let us devote ourselves to studying God’s Word, committing to obey it, and teaching it to others.
Throughout Scripture, the Lord reassures us not to fear, promising His presence through all trials. As we lean on Him, spending time in prayer, worship, and the study of His Word, He will guide and bless us and that blessing is promised to pour out even onto our descendants.
What will we choose?
The choice is laid before us—life or death. Let us choose this day whom we will serve, committing ourselves to the Lord who promises to be with us always. Choose life, choose abundance, and walk in the path of blessings that the Lord has laid before us.
