The Children of Asher

The Children of Asher

1 Chron 7:40 All these were the children of Asher, heads of their fathers’ houses, choice men, mighty men of valor, chief leaders. And they were recorded by genealogies among the army, fit for battle; their number was twenty-six thousand.
The text above is an exceptional way to have your children presented. Heck, I want to be one recognized as “Fit for Spiritual Battle” and my children described as above. Lord Help me! Because, we are called and chosen to lead our families. We are leaving behind a legacy… What will we be known for? What will our children carry on through us? How can we leave behind a legacy like the Children of Asher? Let’s find out:

Heads of their Father’s House

God wants to impart Headship into your Home. The Children of Asher were heads of their Father’s house. He does NOT want us to follow the crowd. As you read over this scripture pray this, decree this over your home and children today.
“Deut 28:13- The Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.”
Asher decided to train up His children differently than He was raised. We can learn from this too. We should not trust society to set the standard for our home or follow the example set before us in the world. The Bible says in Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go”. Parents, the responsibility is fully ours to train up our children correctly. We must be the headship in our home, we cannot allow children to dictate to us what they will do. Scripture in the book of Joshua 24:15 says, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” But remember, Ephesians 6:4 says, “And you fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.”

The Children of Asher were Choice Men

The Lord wants our children to grow up to be choice men and women, full of the Word of God. As we read these scriptures, pray and decree them over your children and your home. It says in the book of Deuteronomy 11:18-21 “Therefore you shall lay up these words of mine in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. And you shall write them on the door posts of your house and on your gates.” We should make every effort to live this scripture out in our home and with our children. Our Christianity should be a way of life, not just a label we go by. It is our job to show them how to have character, integrity, live with high standards. We cannot expect simply bringing them to church is going to accomplish this. Sometimes we will have to stand up for things that are hard and not let them do what others do. We have to show them there is a better way. Isaiah 55:9 says, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” It may be hard sometimes but choosing God’s way over our own will always lead to a better outcome.

Mighty Men of Valor

For our children to grow to be mighty men and women of valor we must show them. Valor means having great courage in the face of danger. The fact that our children will face danger at some point is obvious, but we must do what it takes to get them ready to face it with courage in Christ. 2 Tim 4:2-5 says, “Preach the Word! (talk, tell, speak) Be ready in season and out of season. Convince rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they (the world) will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, (because they were not taught) they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from truth, and be turned aside to fables…

Be Watchful

…But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.” We have to be intentional in our faith. Purposefully implement good habits for our family that will teach them how to stand up for what is right. Because, there is an enemy who seeks to kill, steal and destroy us and them. We are specifically chosen and placed in leadership/headship over our children to teach them the way to live. John 14:25-27 says, “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you but the helper, the holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Because of this, we are not alone, he is there to help us every step of the way. As the scripture says, be watchful of these things that creep up in our culture and ever so subtly lead our children astray. Train them to be Mighty men and women of Valor, to be courageous in the face of conflict. Raise them to be strong, to stand up for Christ and Christ likeness in a world that wants to hide it, shush it and control it. Now, let’s see what’s next.

The Children of Asher were Chief Leaders

Like the children of Asher, we want our children to be chief leaders, not followers.
1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;” We are examples of living a Christian life, we are called, chosen to be living examples of Christianity.  To accomplish this, we must continue to seek God for guidance and instruction in all our decisions. The Lord says to you today, “I know your daddy wasn’t there for you, I know you have had some bad experiences in life, I know Your sins and your rebellion, BUT I have chosen YOU, come with Me. 2 Chron 7: 14-16 says, “If (YOU) My people who are called by My name will humble yourselves and pray and seek My face, and turn from your wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive your sin and heal your land. Now my eyes will be open and My ears attentive to your prayers that you pray.

Apply it

Declare these words over your home. Review the scriptures mentioned above, and decide today to apply these words to in your family life. The Children of Asher were listed with many great attributes. I desire that all children in the house of the Lord shall be listed with similar Godly attributes as those listed above. Review them, speak these words to yourself, speak into your children. I declare with you today, this is the Word of God and It shall not return void. It will accomplish what it was sent out to do! AMEN!
